A pattern for a hat with a cable pattern
(ohje löytyy suomeksi TÄÄLTÄ)
Both hats are made with the same pattern, the yellow one has a longer rib. The grey hat is made with DK weight yarn and 3,75mm needles and the yellow hat is made with Worsted weight yarn and 4mm needles.
Yarn: Grey hat: Walk Collection Merino DK
Yellow hat: Novita 7 Veljestä
Needles: Grey hat: 3,75mm
Yellow hat: 4mm
Gauge: Grey hat: 18 stitches x 18 rounds = 5cm of cable rib
Yellow hat: 17 stitches x 16 rounds =5cm of cable rib, measured without any blocking
Size: Adult
Other: A cable needle. In the grey hat I used pink yarn to cast on the stitches and then changed to grey yarn. If you want to do the same, you will need a tiny amount of yarn in the colour of your choosing.
Please note that if you are right handed, your hat will be a mirrored image of what is shown in the pictures, in other words, the cables will turn the other way.
The pattern:
Cast on 120 stitches.
Start knitting the rib chart. Repeat the chart 15 times per round. Knit rounds 1-19.
If you want the ribbing to be longer, repeat rounds 16-19 until you have your desired length.
Now start knitting the cable chart. On the first round 15 stitches are increased.
Repeat the chart three times per round. Knit rounds 1-36.
Now knit the top chart. Repeat the chart three times per round. Knit rounds 1-20.
When the chart is finished, you will have 18 stitches left. Break the yarn leaving a long tail, thread through the stitches and pull tight to close the hole.
Weave in all ends.
Blue stitches:
round 23: at the beginning p1.
Next repeats: sl2 to CN, hold in front, p1, k2 from CN.
At the end of the round: sl2 to CN, hold in front, p1 (the first stitch of the round), k1 from CN, slip the second stitch from CN to the first needle, this is now the first stitch of the round.
round 24: at the beginning k1, p1.
Next repeats: sl2 to CN, hold in front, p1, k2 from CN.
At the end of the round: slip the last and the first stitch of the round to CN, hold in front, purl the second stitch of the round to the last needle, k2 from CN and slip them to the first needle, these are now the first two stitches of the round (and when you start round 25, you have already knit them)
The charts:
It looks like the photos of the FOs have been flipped, because they are the reverse of the chart you've provided. This makes some of the instructions a little odd and hard to follow
VastaaPoistaI mention at the beginning (where it says "please note") that if you are right handed, your hat will be a mirror image of mine, because i am left handed. You can save the image to your computer/device and flip it horizontally to see what a right handed knitters version will look like.
